About the author
Born and raised on a farm in Wickliffe, a small township in Western Victoria, Cheryl spent most of her early years in the outdoors.
At age 17 she made the move to Melbourne where she worked for the next two years before moving back to country Victoria in Ballarat where she settled for the next 5 years.
During this time she decided to travel overseas and headed off on an extended trip traveling to Europe and Turkey. With the travel bug set in place the next few years saw her travels cover an 18 month trip around Australia, a visit to Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Egypt, Jordan and Israel followed by a visit to India which was to become her favorite of all destinations.
A settling point was to be the Sunshine Coast in Queensland where she went back to studies and became a Naturopath and practiced on the Sunshine Coast.
She met her husband Dr Michael Ryan and they share a beautiful young daughter called Maggie who was born in 2001.
Cheryl decided to continue studies and is now back at Sunshine Coast University completing a degree in both Accounting and Financial Planning and it is during this time that her daughter one evening in June 2006 asked the pertinent question – Why doesn’t George have any clean water or food?
That question has led us down a long path to setting up our own charity called Maggie’s Dreamcatcher and the writing of the book; Who is George?
That question is another whole story…
A word from the author…
“The book itself was a challenge as it is something I had never attempted before and I had no qualifications in writing or in painting. I took some painting lessons with Go Arty in Maroochydore for which I am forever grateful and I was on my own.
The book took me a little under a year to complete and it has given me great personal satisfaction. The story is a simple story with a message about giving and sharing. Through the sales of the book I can not only raise well needed funds but pass on this message to those who read the story.”
