Our mission
About the project
Help for the Himalaya
North India is one of the poorest regions on our earth. Human beings live in tents and shacks far below acceptable basic conditions. Malnutrition and poor hygiene lead to many dangerous infesctions and diseases affecting young children. Infant mortality is high.
Quality care is rare and often many hours away. A trip to the Himalayan foothills in Himachal Pradesh touched the German doctor couple Hedda and Claus Blumenroth very deeply, so that they decided to donate the complete inventory of their hospital for a good cause, namely to secure good medical care for the people near Dharamsala.
In was decided to build a hospital at Gyuto Monastery, a plan blessed by His Holiness the Dalai Lama. It is the mission of Maggie's Dreamcatcher to support the efforts of the Red Lotus to bring this altrusic project to fruition.
The University Hospital
The planned hospital will be capable to ensure first class medical care for the region. The many poor people shall beenfit from free medical treatmenet, regardless of class or religion. We estimate that the realisation of this project will cost about $600,000USD. Additionally, the RED LOTUS e.V (registered charity) will cover the ongoing running costs of this hospital. Claus Blumenroth will oversee the set up of the equipment and infrastructure, for example he will help to educate the Indian and Tibetan Hospital personnel. On average a doctor's wages are $380USD per month, a nurse earns about $180USD. Additionally fresh medical supplied are always required, as well as the maintenance of the medical equipment. In order to optimise and enhance the treatments at the hospital, international doctors are invite to work at Gyuto short term and impart knowledge to the local staff while at the same time learning something about the miraculous power of traditional Tibetan medicine from the two resident herbal practitioners.
